This project incorporated many of the new techniques appearing in the bridge designer's toolbox to add texture and color to a normally unadorned structure. Using form liners, the abutments were given the appearance of stone masonry construction. Utilizing concrete stain, the stone surface was colored to give a rustic look and also blend more carefully into the surrounding environment. Even special surface finishes were used to give the structure a bordered effect for aesthetic appeal and color variation. With tightly monitored quality control by the ready mix producer, the contractor was able to give the engineer the uniformity and pleasing appearance desired for this unique location. Congratulations for this immensely successful effort in innovation and aesthetics.
