Mortenson Masonry
This masonry exterior building was designed for the owner by architects on staff at the Olaf Anderson and Sons Construction Co. With special color specifications mandated by the owner, all options were examined to reach the correct gray over blue appearance. The decision to use Masterblock’s new Veneer Series DuraBrick was the key to this success story in masonry construction.
Mortenson Masonry found the DuraBrick option up to the task. One of the many benefits of a concrete brick over clay is the consistency of the size and shape of the units. Concrete units are constructed in molds which minimizes height and length discrepancies. This uniformity reduces labor rates as the units are laid up faster without complications by the masonry contractor.
The DuraBrick Veneer Series depth cored concrete brick is available in a variety of colors. DuraBrick is available with either an embossed or a smooth face style in modular or utility size units. DuraBrick Veneer series units offer an affordable alternative to conventional clay brick while maintaining a rich traditional appearance. These products are ideal for communities with a “brick or better” building covenant requirement. Concrete veneer products supplied by Aggregate Industries can also help earn LEED points by using the special MasterBlock EnviroMaster Series mix design.
High strength and low absorption qualities of the Veneer Series exceed ASTM C-90 requirements. Plus aesthetics are maintained through use of stable integral polymeric color in the manufacturing process which resists fading and acidic chemical attack.
