Maple River Dam Spillway

Owner: Cass County Joint Water Resource District State of North Dakota Entered by: Aggregate Industries
Engineer: Moore Engineering Contractor: Wanzek Construction

The Maple River Dam is the final project for a flood control program that began 20 years ago. It is designed to ease flooding along the Red River Valley with impacts as far North as Grand Forks. The project is design to temporarily retain 60,000 acre-ft. of water during flood events.

The project scope has included moving more than 2 million cubic yards of earth to create a 70 foot high dam embankment. Spillways include a 100 foot-wide reinforced concrete primary spillway with a 1200 foot wide emergency spillway. Low water flows of the Maple River are contained within reinforced concrete culverts under the main embankment.

Aggregate Industries supplied approximately 5000 cubic yards of concrete to complete the project.
