Medal Of Honor

A review of the history of North Dakota shows that when our nation’s security is threatened, our citizens are prepared to step up and to serve. While special thanks are due to all who serve, people from the Minot area were the first to secure a plan to honor those North Dakota citizens who have earned the Medal of Honor. Putting their plan into action, they have now constructed the memorial that stands in Roosevelt Park in Minot.

The unique design of the memorial is focused on a 30 foot precast concrete spire. Surrounding the spires are 19 precast concrete pedestals which honor individual Medal of Honor recipients. Each recipient’s citation and accounts of his bravery are recorded on a bronze plaque attached to each precast concrete pedestal. It is certainly a fitting way to honor our most prestigious soldiers for their bravery and solidarity in their military service.

Precast concrete was chosen as the basis of the memorial due to its mass, aesthetics, and durability. These features enhance the experience in remembering with enduring reverence those who fought and succeeded. Precast concrete provided this contribution to ambiance with a minimum of cost and maximum of beauty and impact.

Within four years of starting from a dream, the community of Minot with Ward County, the State of North Dakota and a multitude of major and minor donors made this memorial possible. Congratulations on a well constructed memorial to our special citizens.
