Little did the early city fathers of Kingsport, Tennessee know that their wisdom in specifying concrete streets would be winning them praise 80 years later! This upper Tennessee town began building concrete streets in the mid-1920's and continues to pave streets with concrete based on its long performance record. It is said that this community has more concrete city streets than any other in the state. According to Public Works Director, Roger Dark, there are many concrete streets between 30 and 70 years old in excellent condition. Maintenance has been minimal and simple; such as joint sealing. |
