Pervious Concrete Pavement Contractor Training
Pervious concrete is catching on in areas looking for Best Management Practices for stormwater management. Currently, the Pelican River Watershed at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota has an aggressive program to manage impervious surfaces on building developments in their management area. A 15,000 sq. ft. parking lot is planned for construction this summer and NRMCA Pervious Concrete Contractor Certification training was held to support this project in Detroit Lakes on April 29th. Hank Hauge from Strata Corporation and David Sethre from the ND Ready Mix & Concrete Products Association conducted the training to a group of 11 contractor participants together with some local engineers auditing the course. Dennis Lura of Lura Enterprises of Fargo was also a key participant to help with the pervious installation and demonstration at the end of the training session. Dave Fennessy from the Aggregate and Ready Mix Association of Minnesota and Roger Johnson from Lehigh Cement were also in attendance to support the program.
Comments on the quality of the training were very positive. One trainee noted that he had attended other pervious training programs including those at World of Concrete and the training session at Detroit Lakes was a significant improvement. Good luck to the trainees in their Certification test. A list of these will be posted in the near future for reference for those interested in constructing pervious concrete pavements. Please use NRMCA trained contractors for pervious concrete.
The training course was sponsored by the NDRM&CPA, Strata Corporation, Lura Enterprises, NRMCA, ARM, and Lehigh Cement Company.
